Now I use Best Minutes, you call 09119228080 it is 13p per minute towards mobiles, maybe 6 or 7p to landline, not sure.
but I am gonna try this one that Khalid and rayhana are using,  what's the name of the company ?

Roxy phone card is great, it's new and for £5 you get 118 minutes to a mobile number in Morocco that's with talking all the way through. and using and 020 7 access number.  :)

Salaam

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me understand how to text a Morocccan Mobile number from the U.K.

I have tried texting like -

00 212 (mobile number)
212 (mobile number)

each time this didn't work

My mobile network provider is o2.

Any clues to what I might be doing wrong?

Another question in Morocco do people have mobile phone contracts like they do in the UK or is just PAYG mobiles in use in Morocco?

Thanks in advance for any replies

Salam

just  use 00 or + then  212 then  6(new number added this year)  then  number xx xx xx  without 0
example
you want to text or call  014 15 63
you dial + 212 6 14 15 63

Thank you very much for your reply.

You might be able to help me further though because the number that I want to text to might not work with your example. Let me explain...

When calling I dial - 00 212 527 XXX XXX

This works fine I can get through ok.

So does this mean if I follow your example all I have to do is enter +212 then replace the first digit which is 5 with a 6 and then enter the number as normal? So it would like this -

+212 627 XXX XXX

There is no 0 at the start of the number I have?

I'm thinking the 527 is an area code and the 6 digits after this are the actual mobile number?

Thank for your help

Salam

no if you are calling a mobile then keep the number that gets through the same don't add or take off anything.
if it is a landline then you can  not text to it.

here is again how it works:

you dial 00 or + to get to outside the country you are calling anywhere you are in the world
then 212 to connect to Morocco
then 6 to mobile
or  5 to landline
then the number without zero

- For Moroccan Mobile numbers, the digit “6” will be added to the old Mobile number:
Old Moroccan mobile phone number: +212 AB XX XX XX where A = {1, 4, 5, 6, 7} and B = {from 0 to 9}.
New Moroccan mobile phone number: +212 6 AB XX XX XX where A = {1, 4, 5, 6, 7} and B = {from 0 to 9}.

- For Moroccan fixed (and fixed with limited mobility phone numbers, the digit “5” will be added to the old fixed phone number:
Old Moroccan fixed (and fixed with limited mobility): +212 AB XX XX XX where A={2,3} and B={0 to 9}
New Moroccan fixed (and fixed with limited mobility): +212 5 AB XX XX XX where A={2,3} and B={0 to 9}

- For Moroccan Non-geographic phone numbers: the digit “0” or “8” will be added to the old number:
Old: +212 8X XX XX XX New:+212 80 X XX XX XX
Old:+212 9X XX XX XX New:+212 89 X XX XX XX

here is the list of codes for some cities

Agadir Phone Code 2
Casablanca Phone Code 2
El Jadida Phone Code 34
Essaouira Phone Code 2
Fes Phone Code 3
Kenitra Phone Code 3
Larache Phone Code 3
Marrakech Phone Code 2
Meknes Phone Code 3
Mohammedia Code 32
Oujda Phone Code 3
Rabat Phone Code 3
Safi Phone Code 2
Tangier Phone Code 9
Tetouan Phone Code 3
Tinrhir Phone Code 4
Zagora Phone Code 4

Salaam

Thank you once again 'The Truth' for your reply.

I now understand the type of number I am trying to text.

The number I am trying to text starts with 527 then 6 digits follow this. According to your explaination below, it looks like I am trying to text a fixed number which is not possible.

- For Moroccan fixed (and fixed with limited mobility phone numbers, the digit “5” will be added to the old fixed phone number:
Old Moroccan fixed (and fixed with limited mobility): +212 AB XX XX XX where A={2,3} and B={0 to 9}
New Moroccan fixed (and fixed with limited mobility): +212 5 AB XX XX XX where A={2,3} and B={0 to 9}

Seems odd the concept of limited mobility phone numbers? I don't think anything like that exists in the UK? I know when I call it gets through to a mobile so I presumed I could text to the number also.

The number I am dialling to is a Casablanca number also. Can a Moroccan fixed number with limited mobility be used all over Morocco then or just in the Casablanca region?

Are Moroccan fixed numbers with limited mobility bought on a contract then also or can they be PAYG to?

Thanks very much for the information

Those fixed mobility number have just started recently they are called wanna or bayn, something like that. they are like mobiles but they function like landline if that makes any sense. I think u can use them up to something like 20miles around where they are registered. In Morocco you can either have a contract mobile or PAYG same like UK. The number you are trying to text is definetly a land line, so don't waste ur time.

When it comes to calls I use skype. very good value for money. you top up 10 pounds and that will be something like 19p per minute to mobiles with a good reliable service.

hope that helps
