The mercy of the merciful Prophet

A Bedouin came to Rasul Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and told him, "Give me from what Allah gave you, not from the wealth of your mother nor from the wealth of your father." The Sahaabah were furious at the man and step forward to discipline him for what he said. Rasul Allah commanded everyone to leave him.

Then by the hand, Rasul Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) took him home, opened his door and said, "Take what you wish and leave what you wish." The man did so and after he completed, Rasul Allah asked him, "Have I honored you?" "Yes, by Allah,"
said the Bedouin. "Ash hadu an laa ilaaha illa Allah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadar Rasul Allah."

When the Sahabah heard of how the man changed, Rasul Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) taught them.

"Verily the example of myself, you and this Bedouin is that of a man who had his camel run away. The townspeople tried capturing the camel for him by running and shouting after the camel, only driving it further away. The man would shout, 'Leave me and my camel, I know my camel better.' Then he took some grass in his hand, ruffled it in front of the camel, until it came willingly.

'By Allah, had I left you to this Bedouin, you would have hit him, hurt him, he would have left without Islam and eventually have entered hellfire."

Assalamu alaikum
It is a wonderful idea, however, we need to cite sources where it came from, whether it is Sahih Muslim, Sahih Bukhari, Abu Da'ud etc.

Note of caution;
No one here is qualified to interpret hadith, so be careful not to read something into them. By this I mean what were the circumstances for this being said? Was it in reference to some other matter not mentioned in this hadith? Was the isnad strong, or was it weak? Many things to consider. Just a cautionary note.

Can we get a moderator to make this a sticky file? If we are going to start posting a Hadith a day, we need to somehow have the file isolated. Is this possible?

Al-Muwatta, by Imam Malik, rahmatullahi alaihi.

[51.13] Those who Love Each Other in Allah

Yahya, rahmatullahi alaihi, related to me from Imam Malik, rahmatullahi alaihi, from Abdullah ibn Abd ar-Rahman ibn Mamar, rahmatullahi alaihi, from Abu'l-Hubab Said ibn Yasar, rahmatullahi alaihi, that Abu Huraira, radhi’Allahu anhu, said, "The Messenger of Allah, alaihi salat wa salam, said, 'Allah, the Blessed, the Exalted, will say on the Day of Rising, "Where are those who loved each other for My majesty? Today I will shade them in My shade on the day when there is no shade except My shade." "'

GOD SEES YOU EVERYWHERE
---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------
A teacher had many good students in his class but had particular regard and high respect for one of them. Some of the students one day asked the teacher the reason for this. In reply he said, I shall tell you tomorrow."
The next day, he handed to each of those students one live chicken. He asked them to take the chickens to a place where they would not be seen by anyone and then slaughter them. After a while, they returned with their chicken duly slaughtered. But his favourite student came back with his chicken alive.

The teacher asked him why he had not slaughtered it. He replied. "You had asked me to go to a place where nobody would see me. I tried hard to find a place where God Almighty could not see me. But I failed. Everywhere went I was sure that God could see me and I could not hide from Him. So I could not carry out your instructions.

On hearing this, the teacher turned to the other students and remarked, "The reason why I respect this student more is because of his constant awareness of the existence of God who can always see him, no matter where he is. Consequently, he does not commit any sin".

The sixth Imam, Ja'far al-Sadiq (a), said to one of his friends, lshaq Bin Ammar, "Fear God as if you are able to see Him because He sees you. And if you think that He is not able to see you, then you become a non-believer. And if you believe that He sees you and you commit a sin in His presence, then you consider Him as the lowest of those seeing you".

Al-Muwatta by Imam Malik, rahmatullahi alaihi

[37.7] General Chapter on Making Judgement and Shying Away From It

Imam Malik, rahmatullahi alaihi, related to me from Yahya ibn Said, rahmatullahi alaihi, that Abu'd-Darda, radhi’Allahu anhu, wrote to Salman al-Farsi, radhi’Allahu anhu, "Come immediately to the holy land." Salman, radhi’Allahu anhu, wrote back to him, radhi’Allahu anhu, "Land does not make anyone holy. Man's deeds make him holy. I have heard that you were put up as a doctor to treat and cure people. If you are innocent, then may you have delight! If you are a quack, then beware lest you kill a man and enter the Fire!" When Abu'd-Darda, radhi’Allahu anhu, judged between two men, and they turned from him to go, he would look at them and say, "Come back to me, and tell me your story again. A quack! By Allah!"

Yahya, rahmatullahi alaihi, said that he heard Imam Malik, rahmatullahi alaihi, say, "If someone makes use of a slave, without permission of its master, in anything important to him, whose like has a fee, he is liable for what befalls the slave if anything befalls him. If the slave is safe and his master asks for his wage for what he has done, that is the master's right. This is what is done in our community."

Yahya, rahmatullahi alaihi, said that he heard Imam Malik, rahmatullahi alaihi say about a slave who is part free and part enslaved, "His property is suspended in his hand and he cannot begin anything with it. He eats from it and clothes himself in an approved fashion. If he dies, his property belongs to the one to whom he is in slavery."

Yahya, rahmatullahi alaihi, said that he heard Imam Malik, rahmatullahi alaihi say, "The way of doing things in our community is that a parent can take his child to account for what he spends on him from the day the child has property, cash or goods, if the parent wants that."

TIT FOR TAT

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

It is a law of nature that whatever action we take in this world, there is always a reaction. If we do good, we stand to gain a good reward. If we do bad, we should expect a bad outcome ultimately. "What you sow, so you reap" is a popular saying.

The Holy Qur'an has also guided us on this subject.

It says:

If you do good, you do good to yourselves. (likewise)

If you do evil, you do evil to yourselves. (Qur'an: Chapter 17, Verse 7)

One of the companions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) was very fond of this verse of the Qur'an. He used to recite it loudly and repeatedly wherever he went.

A Jewish woman who had heard him once wanted to prove him wrong and thus make him unpopular among his people. She thought up a plot against him.

She prepared some sweets mixed with poison and sent them to him as a present. When he received them, he went out of the city with them. On the way, he met two men who were returning home from a long journey. They appeared tired and hungry, so he thought of doing them a good turn. He offered them the sweets. Of course, he was not aware that they were secretly mixed with poison. No sooner had the two travellers taken the sweets, they collapsed and died. When the news of their death reached Medina, the city where the Prophet resided, the man was arrested. He was brought in front of the Prophet and he related what had actually happened. The Jewish woman who had mixed poison with the sweets was also brought to the court of the Prophet. She was stunned to see the two dead bodies of the travellers there. They in fact turned out to be her own two sons who had gone away on a journey.

She admitted her evil intention before the Prophet and all the people present. Alas, the poison she had mixed in the sweets to kill the companion of the Prophet had instead killed her own two sons.

What a splendid example of a tragic reaction to a bad action. It shows how one reaps what he sows.

"Do as you would be done by" are words of wisdom from the learned and wise men of the past. They teach us to do good to others in the same way as we like others to do good to us.

“Do not look to those above you. Look to those below you, as it will more likely remind you of Allah’s favors bestowed on you.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Inheritance from People of Other Religions

[27.10] Yahya, rahmatullahi alaihi, related to me from Imam Malik, rahmatullahi alaihi, from Ibn Shihab, rahmatullahi alaihi, from Ali ibn Husayn ibn Ali, radhi’Allahu anhu, from Umar ibn Uthman ibn Affan, radhi’Allahu anhu, from Usama ibn Zayd, radhi’Allahu anhu, that the Messenger of Allah alaihi salat wa salam, said, "A muslim does not inherit from a kafir."

[27.11 Yahya, rahmatullahi alaihi, related to me from Imam Malik, rahmatullahi alaihi, from Ibn Shihab, rahmatullahi alaihi, that Ali ibn Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib, radhi’Allahu anhu, told him that Aqil and Talib inherited from Abu Talib, and Ali, radhi’Allahu anhu, did not inherit from him. Ali, radhi’Allahu anhu, said, "Because of that, we have given up our portion of ash Shab." (A house belonging to Banu Hashim).

[27.12] Yahya, rahmatullahi alaihi, related to me from Imam Malik, rahmatullahi alaihi, from Yahya ibn Said, rahmatullahi alaihi, from Sulayman ibn Yasar, rahmatullahi alaihi, that Muhammad ibn al-Ashath, rahmatullahi alaihi, told him that he had a christian or jewish paternal aunt who died. Muhammad ibn al-Ashath, rahmatullahi alaihi, mentioned that to Umar ibn al-Khattab, radhi’Allahu anhu, and said to him, "Who inherits from her?" Umar ibn al-Khattab, radhi’Allahu anhu, said to him, "The people of her deen inherit from her." Then he went to Uthman ibn Affan, radhi’Allahu anhu, and asked him about that. Uthman, radhi’Allahu anhu, said to him, "Do you think that I have forgotten what Umar ibn al-Khattab, radhi’Allahu anhu, said to you? The people.of her deen inherit from her."

[27.13] Yahya, rahmatullahi alaihi, related to me from Imam Malik, rahmatullahi alaihi, from Yahya ibn Said, rahmatullahi alaihi, from Ismail ibn Abi Hakim, rahmatullahi alaihi, that Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz, rahmatullahi alaihi, freed a christian who then died. Ismail, rahmatullahi alaihi, said, ''Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz ordered me to put his property in the bayt al-mal."

[27.14] Yahya, rahmatullahi alaihi, related to me from Imam Malik, rahmatullahi alaihi, from a reliable source of his who had heard Said ibn al-Musayyab, rahmatullahi alaihi, say, ''Umar ibn al-Khattab, radhi’Allahu anhu, refused to let anyone inherit from the non-arabs except for one who was born among the arabs."

To the mods,

Would it be possible to change the name of my thread? instead of hadith of the say, Narration or Islamic story of the day...?

The man who made a promise to tell the truth
---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

Telling the truth is a very good habit. If you always speak the truth, you can save yourself from a lot of trouble! Here is a story of a man who did a lot of bad things, but his promise to tell the truth saved him.

Once a man came to the prophet Muhammad (S) and said, "Oh prophet of Allah, I have many bad habits. Which one of them should I give up first?" The prophet said, "Give up telling lies first and always speak the truth." The man promised to do so and went home.

At night the man was about to go out to steal. Before setting out, he thought for a moment about the promise he made with the prophet. "If tomorrow the prophet asks me where have I been, what shall I say? Shall I say that I went out stealing? No, I cannot say that. But nor can I lie. If I tell the truth, everyone will start hating me and call me a thief. I would be punished for stealing."

So the man decided not to steal that night, and gave up this bad habit.

Next day, he felt like drinking wine, when he was about to do so, he said to himself, "What shall I say to the prophet if he asks me what did I do during the day? I cannot tell a lie, and if I speak the truth people will hate me, because a Muslim is not allowed to drink wine." And so he gave up the idea of drinking wine.

In this way, whenever the man thought of doing something bad, he remembered his promise to tell the truth at all times. One by one, he gave up all his bad habits and became a good Muslim and a very good person.

If you always speak the truth, you can be a good person, a good Muslim whom Allah likes and favors. If Allah - our Creator - is pleased with us, He will reward us with HEAVEN, which is a place of happiness and joy.

Assalamu alaikum

Only for Allah

There was a pious man among the Bani Israel who always remained busy in the worship of Allah. A group of people came to him and told him that a tribe living nearby worshipped a tree. The news upset him, and with an axe on his shoulder he went to cut down that tree. On the way, Shaitan met him in the form of an old man and asked him where he was going. He said he was going to cut a particular tree. Shaitan said, "You have nothing to be concerned with this tree, you better mind your worship and do not give it up for the sake of something that does not concern you." "This is also worship," retorted the worshipper. Then Shaitan tried to prevent him from cutting the tree, and there followed a fight between the two, in which the worshipper overpowered the Shaitan. Finding him self completely helpless, Shaitan begged to be excused, and when the worshipper released him, he again said, "Allah has not made the cutting of this tree obligatory on you. You do not lose anything if you do not cut it. If its cutting was necessary, Allah could have got it done through one of his many Prophets (may Allah bless them all)." The worshipper insisted on cutting the tree. There was again a fight between the two and again the worshipper overpowered the Shaitan. "Well listen," said Shaitan, "I propose a settlement that will be to your advantage." The worshipper agreed, and Shaitan said, "You are a poor man, a mere burden on this earth. If you stay away from this act, I will pay you three gold coins everyday. You will daily find them lying under your pillow. By this money you can fulfill your own needs, can oblige your relative, help the needy, and do so many other virtuous things. Cutting the tree will be only one virtue, which will ultimately be of no use because the people will grow another tree." This proposal appealed to the worshipper, and he accepted it. He found the money on two successive days, but on the third day there was nothing. He got enraged, picked up his axe and went to cut the tree. Shaitan as an old man again met him on the way and asked him where he was going. "To cut the tree," shouted the worshipper. "I will not let you do it," said Shaitan. A fight took place between the two again but this time Shaitan had the upper hand and overpowered the worshipper. The latter was surprised at his own defeat, and asked the former the cause of his success. Shaitan replied, "At first, your anger was purely for earning the pleasure of Allah, and therefore Almighty Allah helped you to overpower me, but now it has been partly for the sake of the gold coins and therefore you lost."

Thank you Moroccan!... :D

Wa salam habrifaqir,

I enjoyed that story... :D
---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------
Thirst for Learning

Hadhrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says:

"After the passing away of the Prophet (peace be upon him), I said to an Ansari friend of mine: ‘The Prophet is not now with us. But a large number of Sahabah are still among us. Let us go to them and get knowledge of the Islamic practices.’ He said: ' Who is going to approach you for learning a regulation in the presence of these eminent Sahabah?' I was not discouraged. I kept up my quest for knowledge and approached every person who was supposed to have heard something from the Prophet. I managed to gather substantial information from the Ansar. If on my visit to someone of the Sahabah, I found him asleep, I spread my shawl at the gate and sat waiting. Sometimes my face and body would get covered with dust, but I kept sitting till they woke and I was able to contact them. Some of them said: 'Abdullah you are the cousin of the Prophet; you could have sent for us. Why did you take the trouble of coming to our places?' I said to them: 'I must come to you, for I am a student and you are my teachers.' Some people for whom I had waited said: 'Since when have you been waiting for us?' I informed them that I had been sitting there for a pretty long time. They said: 'What a pity! You could have awakened us from our sleep.' I said: 'I did not like to disturb you for my own sake.' I thus carried on my pursuits, till there came a time when people began to flock to me for learning. My Ansari friend realized this at that time and remarked: 'This boy has surely proved himself more sensible than us.'"

Besides our quest for knowledge to earn a livelihood in this world, we must as well gain sufficient knowledge of Islam. No matter what age group we belong to at this moment, we should atleast have that much Islamic knowledge with which we can turn our 24 hours life into worship. Those with knowledge and practice will be exalted in this world and in the hereafter.
