Morocco related articles : My first visit to the hammam |
 |
|
I have read a couple of articles in books and on the Internet re the Hammam. There is a book by Pamela Windo called Zora's Ladder, the first chapter is called An Afternoon in the Hammam and she makes it sound such a great experience. It is available from most books shops for about £6
Last Easter when we were over in our apartment, I was talking with the life-guard about the Hammam, is there was one in M'Diq? Will I be able to use it? Can I get a massage there? Etc. It turns out there are a couple of Hammams in M'Diq, there is no reason why I couldn't use them and a massage shouldn't be a problem
During the summer, when we were back over in our apartment I found out where one of the Hammams are and thought I would give it a go. I got up early the next morning packed my towel and trunks and set off all excited about my first Hammam experience. I got there about 10 o'clock, knocked on the little counter window for service when a lady appeared and started shouting and pointing me out of the way. There was a local man hanging about outside and being aware that there are both men and womens Hammams I tried to ask him where the mens one was. I think he understood what I was trying to ask, the problem was I didn't have a clue what he was saying to me.

A man wanted in connection with one of the world's biggest cash robberies will be extradited from Morocco to Britain, authorities said Friday.
The Moroccan Supreme Court has granted a British request to extradite Paul Allen, 28, who is wanted in connection with the Feb. 22, 2006, robbery at a cash depot in southern England.
An armed gang kidnapped the manager of the Securitas Cash Management Ltd. cash depot and his family, raided the depot and made off with 53 million pounds (US$105 million; €77 million.) The depot belongs to the Bank of England.
No date for Allen's extradition has been set. Until then, he will remain in the custody of Moroccan authorities, Kent police said. Police did not say what Allen's nationality is or how he ended up in Morocco.
An extradition request for 27-year-old cage fighter Lee Murray, who is also wanted in connection with the heist, has been adjourned until May 30. He is also in Morocco.
Neither man will be charged until they are handed over to British police.
These two are in solitary confinement in Moroccan jail in sale. sector (A) since 11/07/06 other two man also held are in solitary confinement in the same jail but sector (B) when ever they are moved to showers or toilet are escorted by 7 strongest jail guard in morocco coz 2 of them are cage fighters. But nice guys in fact they haven’t been caught coz of the robbery but because they have bitten up a pick picketers in Morocco when they nicked the wallet of one of them. Then when the police and embassy got involved and investigated these guys bank details and homes they’ve link them with the robbery and so they did our insiders source said they have admitted the robbery to follows prisoners. Lee Murray is a half Moroccan and holder of both British and Moroccan passport. Has asked for political asylum in morocco. And according to our inside informer he has 90% chance to remain in Morocco because he is rich man now. And can buy the court.
So According to our insider in total they are: 2 British man, 1 Turkish/British and 1 Moroccan/British and they are so young and nice people.
The sophisticated robbery was one of the largest heists in recent history. It eclipsed a US$70 million theft from the Central Bank in Fortaleza, Brazil, in August 2005, a US$65 million heist at the Knightsbridge Safe Deposit Centre in London in 1987, and a US$50 million robbery at the Northern Bank of Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 2004.
But all four were dwarfed by the theft of $900 million in U.S. bills and as much as $100 million worth of euros from the Iraq Central Bank in 2003. The robbers not caught up to now.

[b]RABAT (Reuters) - A Moroccan court on Friday jailed eight Islamists for up to 10 years for plotting attacks and belonging to the al Qaeda network, court officials and lawyers said.
The court in Sale, a twin city to Rabat, convicted Ben Moujane Mohamed for "belonging to al Qaeda and preparing terrorist attacks".
